ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jonathan Goh is a Singaporean circus artist based in London/Singapore, specialising in juggling, diabolo, fire spinning, rolla bolla, and freestanding ladders. Starting his circus journey at the age of 11, he has grown into an internationally recognised performer, known for dynamic street and stage shows that combine technical skill with captivating storytelling. 

He has performed at major international festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (as the first Singaporean to perform in the Street Events), Roma Buskers Festival in Italy, Lisboa Mágica in Portugal, Korea’s Gwangju Fringe Festival, and Malaysia’s Georgetown Festival. In Singapore, his work has been featured at the Esplanade Flipside Festival and the Singapore Night Festival. 

Driven by a desire to infuse his identity and Singaporean culture into his craft, Jonathan seeks to innovate the presentation of circus arts, creating performances that are engaging, meaningful, and reflective of his heritage. He recently graduated with a BA in Circus Arts from the National Centre for Circus Arts in London, further honing his skills and expanding his artistic vision.

The show blends juggling, diabolo, and acrobatics with sharp comic timing, keeping audiences guessing until the final moment.

Planks and Ladders is a structured, high-skill street circus act that transforms a public space into a focused arena of balance, timing, and playful tension. Jonathan guides the audience from light interaction into sequences that showcase control and precision, building a crowd that stays engaged from start to finish. The show is designed to work in a 360-degree environment and adapts well to both intimate spaces and larger festival settings.

The act is structured with a clear and thoughtful progression. Jonathan opens with well-paced diabolo sequences that set the tone and establish an easy connection with the crowd. This leads into juggling and a knife routine that brings the audience closer and heightens their attention through skill, timing, and interaction. Each section builds naturally toward the finale. The closing sequence centres on balance and control as Jonathan works on the rolla bolla, then transitions onto a freestanding ladder while stepping off the rolla bolla beneath him. It is a slow, deliberate moment that creates a strong visual peak and gives the show a distinctive, memorable finish.
